The current EU tyre labelling law has been used for many years. Some companies and associations have raised shortcomings, such as a lack of market acceptance of premium tyres in some EU member states and a lack of market surveillance.

In addition to wet grip, noise and rolling resistance, the new EU tyre label will add information on ice and snow grip.

The new regulations do not apply to studded winter tyres. This has been welcomed by many winter tyre manufacturers.

Winter tires due to different market demand, product characteristics are also different.

For example, snow tires designed for the Central European market need to give consideration to both wetland grip and snow performance. Some parts of Northern Europe pay more attention to the grip of the ice.

The Commission also plans to add more information on tire labels, such as tire wear or mileage, ETRMA said.

But before that, a scientific test method needs to be established to accurately measure tire wear.
