TIRE CLASSIFICATION

Project Description

TIRE CLASSIFICATION

The type of tire, in fact, there are many kinds of classification: according to the type of car, according to the use of classification, according to the size of the classification, according to the pattern of the classification, according to the structure of the classification.

CLASSIFICATION BY VEHICLE TIRES:

TIRE CLASSIFICATION

According to the classification of car tires, they can be divided into 8 kinds. That is: PC – car tires; LT – light truck tires; TB — tire of truck and bus; AG — Tires for agricultural vehicles; OTR — tire of engineering vehicle; ID — industrial vehicle tire; AC — aircraft tire; MC — motorcycle tire.

CLASSIFIED BY USE OF TIRES:

Tires are classified according to their use, including truck tires, passenger car tires and mine tires.

TIRE PLY RATING:

315/80R22.5 20PR

In addition to the size on the tire wall, the number of grades must also be marked. But here we need to tell you is that the number of layers of load tires does not refer to its actual number of layers, but refers to the tire body made of high strength material cord, the load performance is equivalent to the number of tire cord fabric layers made of cotton cord tire body. This is because cotton cord is the earliest used in the production of tire body cord, therefore, the international practice is to cotton cord layer as the base number of tire layers. Different levels, the load capacity of the tire is different. Even the same specifications of tires, because it is different levels of the number of different, its load capacity is not the same, so, different levels of tires, can not be used on the same axis, otherwise, in the case of high speed driving and load will occur in danger. For example, the 900-20 tires 16pr  cannot be used on the same axle with the 900-20 tires 14pr , because they are of different levels and different loads, and it is easy to be dangerous after being mixed.

LIGHT TRUCK AND COMMERCIAL CAR:

Light radial truck tires for light trucks and vans have a letter “C” at the end of the tire type to distinguish them from radial tires for cars. For example, the Golden Cup van tyre 185SR14C, where the “C” refers to the tyre as a light duty tyre. The American standard stipulates that passenger tires should be indicated by the letter “P” before the tire size. For example: Cherokee P215/75R15 tires, where the “P” refers to the tires for passenger cars.

For example: Cherokee P215/75R15 tires, where the “P” refers to the tires for passenger cars. There are a lot of drivers do not understand the meaning of the “P” word, blindly superstitious it, that the United States must use the car with the “P” tire, therefore, in the tire change without the “P” word tire dare not use, often make some jokes.

Some tire dealers, in the face of such drivers, have charged high prices for “P” tires. In fact, the “P” word is only a provision of the United States, for example, China’s tire factory tire 185/70R14 tires, to export to the United States to the Ford factory production of the Tianba car matching use, then, according to the provisions of the United States, China’s factory production of 185/70R14 tires in front of the word “P”, to show that this tire for passenger car tires. So, when you change a tire, don’t be fooled by this “P”.

Instead, the “C” word. You should be careful, and if your car is a light truck, you must insist that there is no “C” tire. As mentioned above, the Gold Cup van uses the Meridian 185SR14C tire, while the Audi sedan also uses the Meridian 185SR14 tire. From the point of view of the tire specifications, there is no difference. But because the 185SR14C on the Gold Cup van has a “C” on it and the 185SR14 on the Audi sedan doesn’t have the “C” on it. Therefore, their air pressure, load, and so on are very different.

195R14C

Light truck once changed into the tire without the “C” word, it is necessary to measure whether the tire can bear the weight of the car and expected to carry the goods, if the limited bearing capacity of the tire is less than the weight of the car and to carry the quality of the goods, it must not be used, or when carrying passengers or objects, in mind. Otherwise, like in their own car with four uncertain time bombs, I do not know when the weight exceeds the limit of the tire, the speed reached a certain degree, there will be a tire explosion, rolleover and other malignant accidents. Therefore, please pay special attention to the majority of drivers friends, if your car needs to use a tire with the word “C”, it is best not to let the word “C” no.

LT SUV TIRE

In addition, light duty tires are sometimes referred to as “LT” before or after the tire type. For example, LT215/75R15 and 145R12LT tires, where the “LT” also refers to light duty tires. Here I would like to remind the majority of drivers to pay special attention to this is also my work often encountered: Some vans and guest borrow double row van driver, for driving comfort and safety are to replace the original car with bias tire with meridian vacuum tire, a single comparison from the Angle of oblique and meridian vacuum tire, is undoubtedly much security vacuum tire, but must take into account your car isn’t to carry heavy things, if you want to load, Be sure to change to one with a “C” or “LT” on it. In addition, but also understand the interchangeability of radial tires and bias tires, that is to say, if you want to put the original car with bias tires, changed into radial tires, please do not change, otherwise, will affect the use of the car performance.

Please refer to the table below for the interchange of bias tire and radial tire. This table only refers to the interchangeability of tire size, not considering the load, speed and other safety factors, also does not consider the tire and car body, fender and other parts of the collision problem, then, please actually check, confirm that there is no problem before replacing.

CLASSIFY BY TIRE SIZE:

Tires according to the size of the classification, generally refers to the cross section width of the tire in 17in(inches, 1in= 25.4mm) above the tire, this kind of tire belongs to the giant tire; Tire section width in the following 17in, 10in or more tires belong to large tires; Tire section width in the following 10in tires belong to small and medium-sized tires.

CLASSIFY ACCORDING TO TIRE PATTERN:

There are many kinds of tires according to the pattern classification, but in general, they can be divided into five kinds:

1.Straight groove pattern, also known as ordinary pattern. This pattern has excellent handling stability, low rotation resistance, low noise, especially excellent drainage performance, and is not easy to slip laterally. The reason why it is called a common pattern is relative to the off-road pattern and mud snow pattern. In fact, generally speaking, there are many types of common patterns, because each big tire manufacturer has its own laboratory and tire testing yard, where countless engineers and technicians study patterns. Be in nevertheless research process, benevolent one sees benevolence, wisdom one sees wisdom, some decorative pattern pays attention to hallow and comfortable, some decorative pattern pays attention to waterproof prevent skid, some decorative pattern pays attention to grasp the ground, and some decorative pattern pays attention to undulate resistance is small, economical fuel. Accordingly, although be narrow tread only, have 10 thousand kinds of change however, it may be said really “between square inch, 10 thousand flower world”. And each of the big manufacturers, every year are constantly introducing new patterns.

2.Transverse groove pattern. The driving force, braking force and traction force of transverse groove pattern are particularly excellent, and its wear resistance is excellent, therefore, it is very suitable for the use of engineering vehicles such as bulldozers, excavators and so on, but the handling and drainage performance of transverse groove pattern is poor.

3.Cross ditch pattern. The horizontal and horizontal trench pattern is also called the comprehensive pattern. It has the advantages of both longitudinal and transverse trench pattern. Therefore, it is also more suitable for jeeps and other off-road vehicles.

The pattern of mud and snow.  The pattern of mud and snow, as the name implies, refers to the pattern specially designed for the use of mud and snow.  It is represented by the letters “M+S”, with “M” for mud and “S” for snow.  Such tires are generally directly “M”+” S “rust engraved on the side wall of the tire, so that people can be clear at a glance.

4.The pattern of mud and snow.

Tire pattern

The four basic patterns of longitudinal, transverse, transverse and block pattern and their characteristics:

(1) longitudinal groove tread = good handling stability/rotation resistance to small noise/good drainage/not easy lateral sliding.

(2) transverse groove tread = driving force, braking force, traction force/good wear resistance.

(3) longitudinal and horizontal tread lines = both the advantages of longitudinal and transverse tread lines.

(4 )Block tread = driving force and braking force are very good.

(5)Cross-country pattern. Cross-country pattern is specially designed for dry, wet, rugged mountain roads and muddy and sandy roads. Like a pentathlon athlete, these patterned tires combine several strengths and can be used in all kinds of harsh conditions and climates, making them the perfect tire for young people or off-road vehicles such as jeeps.

In addition, some tire pattern has directional, this kind of pattern is mainly considered to grasp the ground performance, in the installation of this kind of tire, we should pay attention to the installation of rolling direction mark. If there are no marks on the tire, contact the ground first with the tip of the pattern. However, this kind of directional tread tire, if used in the front and rear of the same width of the off-road vehicle, the front two tires can also be installed in reverse. After reverse installation, if your car driving on the sand road, the front wheel shallow, reduce rolling resistance, can save fuel, at the same time, after the front wheel rolling, the road slightly pressurized, which is conducive to the rear wheel through, improve traction. This is the experience summed up in the work, the tire manufacturer did not require, but you might as well try, the effect will be very good.
